THE Bank of South Pacific (BSP) has supported the Police Reservist Division in the National Capital District (NCD) and Central Provincial commands with stationery supplies.
The donation follows a closer working relationship between the reservist units and BSP’s security unit.
Reservist Police Coordinator, Chief Inspector Ruben Giusu, who received the stationery donations, acknowledged the support at the presentation of items from representatives of BSP Bank at the Saraga Police Post.
Commander of NCD and Central, Benjamin Turi said the reservist unit continues to support the regular police units.
“We are pleased to see support from businesses that are supporting the police in both their administrative and operational duties in the command,” said Commander Turi.
Currently most minor offences reported to police in Port Moresby and Central include pettycrimes like bag snatching, summary offences like disorderly behaviour in communities and minor traffic offences like vehicle overloading and the use of unregistered vehicles.
The police reservist unit has been working with regular police officers in the command to increase police presence at bus stops, main markets and shops to ensure citizens commute safely within Port Moresby and Central.
The stationary items will be used to perform administrative duties and will support the work of the reservist units.
“When we work together, we help each other to make Port Moresby and Central Province a better place to live,” said Commander Turi.
He thanked BSP for its assistance and said police officers will continue to work closely with BSP, other businesses houses, and the public to minimize crimes in the city.
He noted that some officers from the bank are also police reservists serving in the command and have been very helpful in supporting regular members.
Turi said this is a way forward for the police and the community to work in partnership.
